Tutorial?

Post by Strob »

Hi,
I am not a programmer even if I know a few thing about scripting. I am more of an artist (and currently 3ds max/vray/Deadline as well as houdini and sometimes Blender user).

I downloaded the installation files and then I was looking for install.exe! lol! I can only find .py or cmd.. I could launch the slave and render!!!

But now what?

Is there any tutorial for non programmer (with some scripting and command line knowledge) about how to use this interesting set of tools?

thanks

Hi.
CGRU does not need any installation. And has no install.exe.
Just copy files and it will work.
It is done to simplify deploying on a farm.

http://cgru.info/afanasy/server#launch
http://cgru.info/afanasy/render#launch

Run start.cmd for a system tray Keeper.
If you run soft from Keeper it, soft will "know" about CGRU.

Generally CGRU is designed for sysadmins, TDs, render wranglers, not for a just an artists.

Ok thanks! Start.cmd! you just sent me to the next step!! With some time I can figure this out. I am a one man studio so I am artist, janitor, accountant,TD and all that jazz! I will just need more time if there is no tutorial. Then I can do a tutorial myself for all the artists out there.

H. Merci ramellij!! J'avais trouvé déjà avant de voir ton post! lol!

Thanks alot Ramellij. I found your tut before even coming back here.

I will definitely follow it. maybe tonight.

I was wondering if it could be possible to run Afanasy on a linux server but to manage a windows render farm? I mean I would put all my file on the linux server and also output my render on it but all my slaves would be on windows. I know nothing about linux yet but if there was 3ds max and zbrush for linux I would switch right away. ultimately I want to switch to houdini on linux but it will take a while before I can do that in production.

Of course it is possible. Just run server on Linux and this is all.
