How to access renderfarm form anywhere?

Hi, at school we are running a afanasy server on a ubuntu server, all the clients are running on windows machines.
What would be the easyest way to access the renderfarm from home? File transfers and adding jobs is needed.
1)VPN
2)File transfers through FTP, adding jobs through WebUI, is this even possible?
3)Another method?
