It seems that 3dmax process has some error(s).
You can try to launch task command simple in a console for tests (to get command double-click its task).
I head that 3dsmax can't work (or has limited functions) in command line mode, without backburner installed.
( it is a 3dsmax native render manager )

It will be more helpful if you always specify CGRU version.
You can write it in your signature.
